1st International Conference on Systemic Approach to Teaching

13 – 15 luglio 2008

July 13 15, 2008

Tafila Technical University, Jordan

The systemic approach has evolved in the field of teaching and learning in 1997, as a fruitful cooperation between Ain Shams University (Egypt) and Texas University at Austin (USA).

By "systemic" we mean an arrangement of concepts or issues through interrelating systems in which all relationships between concepts and issues are made clear, up front, to the learner.

SATL is a new way of teaching and learning, based on the idea that nowadays anything is related to everything globally. Students shouldn't learn isolated facts (by heart), but connect concepts and facts in a logical context. It verifies the major goals of educational systems, and it proceeds towards systemic thinking and continuous growth of knowledge that is referred to as quality of education. It represents a theme and method of teaching and learning a beside its way of life that can be utilized in the management of various sides and activities of a normal citizen in all the scientific, and technological aspects.

1. Introducing the exact meaning of (SATL) and systemics.

2. Understanding the constructivist nature of (SATL).

3. Introducing the (SATL) applications in different Sciences.

4. Understanding the networking and dynamic nature of systemics as building unites in any subject material.

5. Drawing the attention to the use of systemics as a vehicle to improve both teaching and learning.

6. Introducing the uses of Systemic Approach in Curriculum Design.

7. Applying of Systemic Approach in Multiple Intelligence and Meta-cognition.

8. Introducing Systemic Assessment.

9. Introducing SATL in Educational Administration.

10. Systemic solutions of any problem.

The program topics will again concentrate on Corrugating/Corrugating Maintenance, Converting/Converting Maintenance and HRD/Safety. Several of the most popular presentations will be repeated from 2006, with improvements as suggested by attendees, and there will be new topics as well. The duration of each presentation will be extended to 40 minutes, which will allow for questions and more interaction with the instructors. Please plan to bring your problems and ask the experts to help you solve them!

The popular What’s New Technology Showcase session will be held on Thursday morning. The Showcase will be comprised of nine select 10-minute presentations that will allow presenters to spotlight a product or service developed within the past two years. The product or service which you are presenting must currently be in use somewhere in the industry. Commercialism is allowed in this session and it is an excellent opportunity for suppliers to present before a large audience of industry peers. Applications are due by August 17, 2007.

Course Overviews

Attend one or both of these informative courses lead by best selling author, Dr. David Roisum.

Winding Operations will help you understand winding literature, read between the lines and then go beyond to prevent or solve real problems on your products and machines. On day one, the very basics, such as the objectives of winding and winder options, will be reviewed and then we will proceed to winding machine mechanical and control details. On day two, winding theory, roll quality measurement techniques, and roll defect analysis will be addressed.

Web Handling and Converting teaches the “must-know” areas of web handling, including tension control, nips, roller design, spreading and wrinkling. The Course will equip you with the tools, knowledge, and a shared understanding to immediately improve the bottom line. In addition to important converting related topics such as slitting and winding, the course also covers the physics of how web machinery operates. Though theory is included, the emphasis Is placed on practical problem-solving techniques. This popular and informative course has been attended by more than 1,600 students.

Course Instructor

Dr. David Roisum is a well-known authority in the area of web handling and converting. He has authored five books published through TAPPI PRESS which include Winding, Rollers and Web Handling. His next trilogy focuses on industrial problem solving. Additionally, he has written more than 100 articles, conference papers and other publications. He has been a technical editor for Converting Magazine with a monthly column entitled Web Works since 1994. Dr. Roisum was elected TAPPI Fellow in 2003. Clearly, this annual event provides an unprecedented number of advanced technology-exchange opportunities for the industry.

Plans are already under way for PaperWeek 2007 which will be held from February 5 - 9, 2007. The 93rd Annual Meeting of PAPTAC will feature close to 200 technical presentations from experts at more than thirty sessions covering a myriad of topics such as mechanical pulping, newsprint, alkaline pulping, research and development, professional development, engineering, multi-ply board, process control, fine and coated papers, bleaching.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Standing Committees of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada will be actively planning the program for the 93rd Annual Meeting and EXFOR® 2007 that will take place at the Palais des congrčs in Montréal, Québec, from February 5-9, 2007.

Anyone who wishes to submit an abstract or summary of a paper to be presented at the meeting should forward it, preferably by e-mail, to Carolyn Crotogino: ccrotogino@paptac.ca. Submissions by fax or mail will also be accepted.
